About
James
James has spent most of his professional career in government affairs and advocacy in Washington, DC, including more than 15 years in cancer policy and advocacy, and addressing health disparities with policymakers and the broader health and patient communities. James received his Bachelor of Arts degrees in Political Science and African American Studies from the University of North Carolina Charlotte and completed postgraduate work at Georgetown University and the John Kennedy School of Government at Harvard. He is a Spring 1996 initiate and Life Member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., which he proudly claims as the “greatest fraternity ever.” In addition to his service to the fraternity, James serves on the Board of Directors for a national young adult cancer organization in Baltimore City and is a member of the 100 Black Men of Maryland. After Hurricane Katrina, James became an active volunteer helping with the rebuilding efforts in New Orleans. He later took a nearly year-long sabbatical to continue raising awareness of the persistent challenges faced by residents, especially those living in the Lower Ninth Ward.
James is a self-described sports fanatic, who loves watching and attending sporting events, especially baseball games (as a lifelong fan of Cincinnati Reds Baseball), pro football games and NCAA March Madness, which he proclaims is the best sports month of the year.
